Cotopat recognises speech in real-time and displays text, diagrams and videos on screens or tablets, helping resolve communication difficulties and streamline interactions in various professional settings.

Against the backdrop of Europe's increasingly diverse society – where elderly people and those with disabilities face daily communication barriers, and migrant communities often struggle with language differences – organisations across the continent are seeking effective solutions for inclusive communication.

[1] Real-time Information Display

Cotopat is not just a subtitle system. It recognises speech in real-time and immediately displays not only text but also diagrams and videos. This allows complex information and concepts that cannot be fully conveyed through standard text display systems to be communicated visually and clearly. The transparent screen design ensures users can maintain eye contact and see each other's facial expressions throughout the conversation – creating a natural dialogue experience.

This system offers significant advantages when communicating with elderly individuals and people with hearing impairments. As conversation content appears as text in real-time, alongside diagrams and videos, difficulties in hearing comprehension are eliminated, enabling more reliable communication. These capabilities are particularly valuable in government services, healthcare settings, and financial institutions across Europe where clear communication of complex information is essential.

[2] Two-way Interactive Caption Display with Translation Support

When people speak in their native languages, their words appear translated in real-time on the transparent screen in the listener's language. This enables smooth, natural communication while allowing participants to maintain eye contact and observe each other's facial expressions. This is particularly valuable in Europe's multilingual environment.

The system supports 134 languages for translation display (with 73 languages available for simultaneous two-way display) as of October 2025, covering a majority of the official EU languages plus certain regional languages across Europe – making it an ideal solution for businesses serving diverse communities.

When users agree and wish to have a summary, Cotopat records conversation logs* to provide AI generated conversation summaries for visitors via secure QR code access. This feature allows visitors to easily share conversation content with people who weren't present at the meeting.

The Story Behind Cotopat

Cotopat was invented during the height of the COVID19 pandemic, when our development team engaged with people with hearing impairments who faced new communication challenges as mask-wearing became widespread.

“I couldn’t tell if someone was speaking to me, let alone understand what they were saying,” shared one individual during our research. This insight sparked a simple question: “What if masks could display subtitles?”
Through rapid prototyping, the concept evolved from projecting text onto masks to utilising transparent protective screens that had become commonplace. The breakthrough was transforming these barriers into communication bridges – maintaining crucial face-to-face interaction while adding real-time captioning support.
