Kyocera Achieves FIPS 140-3 Certification for Cryptographic Security in A4 Printers and Multifunction Systems.

17/06/2025

A Key Milestone in Data Protection, Strengthening Trust for European Public Sector and Regulated Industries

Kyocera Document Solutions Inc. (President: Takashi Nagai; herein "Kyocera") is pleased to announce that the integrated circuit (IC) developed by Kyocera primarily for use in A4 multifunction products and printers has obtained certification under the information security standard "FIPS* 140-3," established by the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST**).

The certification confirms that Kyocera’s security module meets one of the world’s most stringent benchmarks for encryption and data protection. It provides assurance to European organisations—including those operating in government, healthcare, finance, and legal sectors—that Kyocera devices meet globally recognised standards for safeguarding sensitive and personal data.

FIPS 140-3, the latest evolution of the Federal Information Processing Standards, defines rigorous technical and procedural requirements for cryptographic modules***. While developed by a U.S. federal agency, the standard is recognized worldwide—including across the European Union— by organisations seeking high-assurance cybersecurity controls.

For European businesses and public bodies under pressure to comply with both GDPR and sector-specific regulations, Kyocera’s FIPS-certified products offer a valuable layer of trust, particularly for environments that manage personally identifiable information (PII), confidential business data, or public records.

Kyocera will continue to invest in advanced information security and remain committed to helping European organisations create secure, sustainable, and compliant digital workspaces.
